   HISTORY & ACTIVITIES

Founded in 1927, the Divide Women’s Club, a.k.a Cool Study Club, has been addressing the diverse needs of our community, including education, preserving natural resources, encouraging healthy lifestyles, working on behalf of the elderly and people with disabilities, advocating for issues of concern to women, children and families, and supporting participation in the arts.

 

The Divide Women’s Club is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, a national organization.

 

The Club meets all requirements for federal tax exemption per 501C3.

 

Our accomplishments include the following:

 

·  Were instrumental to the installation of the traffic light at Highways 49 and 193.

 

·  Publishing the book A Country Woman Remembers by Lillian LaFaille.

 

·  Inaugurated the Lillian LaFaille Creative Writing Award for a Golden Sierra High School student based on his or her body of works for the year.

 

·  Have speakers at our regular monthly meetings promoting women’s health, safety, gardening, exercise, art, arts and crafts.

 

· Raising money  to provide annual scholarships for deserving seniors graduating  from Golden Sierra High School.  In 2005, we provided several scholarships.

 

·    Participation in “Read Across America” and the mentoring program at Northside School, grades K through 8.

 

·    Collecting toiletries for the Wellness Center, the Women’s Center, and school   nurses.

 

·    Promote and/or lead in various exercise programs for our members.

 

The Club draws membership from and serves the communities of Cool, Pilot Hill, Garden Valley, Greenwood, and Georgetown and currently has approximately 57 members.
